10/14/2017 0 Comments "THe Sistine CHapel"The Sistine Chapel is a narrative made by Michelangelo. He painted it to tell the story of the heavens and Earth. He made it start all the way back to Adam and Eve, and Noah and the great flood. Michelangelo made the piece because he believed in the Catholic religion. The stories of the bible flow from wall to wall. The artist used the entire ceiling to paint the Sistine Chapel, each square in the ceiling tells a story. Throughout the painting it demonstrates how God comes and saves his people through the terrible times. It always question God’s justice in wiping the earth, but he will always come for his people. It all came back to when God died in the cross for our sins to be washed away. I choose this piece because it is fascinating to think that one man can paint the entire bible story on the ceiling, by painting upside down. He shows the bible in a human's perspective. I am also a christian and my religion is a big part of my life and attitude. This piece makes me feel as if I was flying through heaven, but i’m not dead yet.I wish I could see this painting in person, just to see all the detail and the structure of the building. The Sistine Chapel reminds me of the my old church because of how the ceilings are. It reminds me when I got baptized and I have been happier ever since. This piece also makes me feel happy but sad because I makes me wish the world was this pretty and unified together as one. I am happy to have this painting in this world because it is a good thing to stare at a painting for awhile that is unified. I notice that it is really busy filled, but with calming colors. Many bible stories are demonstrated in small textured squares in the ceiling. The colors are royal blue, red tones, golds, tans, lime green, periwinkle, hunter green, gray-black, gray, black, burgundy, rotten orange, burnt yellow, burnt white, burnt gray, orange-yellow, burnt green, skin tones, burnt brown, mint green and sky blue. The backgrounds of each picture have the color blue. Each antique square represents something important in the bible that lead to Jesus’s birth. There is a giant wall in center filled with nude angles at the top , at the bottom there is a road, with an overall sky background. There are 10 small squares on the ceiling (5 on each side) and there are three squares on each side. The ceilings are curved the architecture outlines the paintings. I see Jesus on the cross right in center on the bottom, of the center painting. Michelangelo used his principles of art very nicely because everything is organized in boxes or one big piece. The overall look of the painting is beautiful because all of his lines are perfect, the shading of the angles and the background is something you could stare at for hours to come. The brush strokes are thin for the people and the thick brush strokes are for background. The foreground have light brushstrokes. I think this artwork was created through years and years of hard work and people say that he was always determined to finish every part of his work. He was on wooden ladder or platform when painting this piece, he also was upside down. I think he mixed many rustic tones with regular colors to get the rustic old feeling of the painting. Everything in the overall piece has a rustic tone to it to make it seem biblical and real to the human eye. The overall focal point is the center of the piece which is gigantic and very visible to the eye. The artist wants you to look at it to get the overall meaning of the piece which is the fact that angles are always protecting us from harm. It’s really important because the first thing my eye went to was the centerpiece because the colors are popping off on another and the Sky background fills the entire piece which swifts your eye all along the piece. The influences that Michelangelo had was his religion and his family background. He grew up being an apprentice and his mother was inspiring him to do art all the time. I think he took the challenge of combining his past into something he really loved. The overall painting gives society of feel of peace because they piece is really busy ,but peace and calming at the same time. He has Jesus is the center of the at piece because it represents when Jesus came down on earth and died on the cross for our sins. I think that the big painting in the middle represents angels flying above roads that roam the earth which represents the angels watching over us. The river background represents what heaven looks like in Michelangelo’s eyes. The curves in the ceiling are pointing into a box which I think represents the gateway to heaven. The sky represent flying when you become apart of peace. I think that even back then the society was peaceful ,but concerned about war in the future, so i think he made this piece to give people a sense of peace before every becomes crazy again. Also saying that don't think about the future live in the present. Michelangelo gave the piece the title of “The Sistine Chapel” because it was painted in a chapel and the bible was one of his big influences in his life. Overall mood of this painting is the fact that Jesus came when he was born and he died on the cross , on this terrible sinful earth. He's trying to say that even the sins that we make today Jesus still forgives us. Michelangelo did a fantastic job at accomplish the busy look of the overall piece ,but there were many calming spots which made it look great all together. It is very aesthetically pleasing to human eye because it gives us a hope of what heaven actually looks through human eye. It again address how angels are watching over us and how we now to convince other to become apart of heaven with us to enjoy freedom at last. It feels like you're not looking at the piece, you're flying through it. Every emotion is portrayed perfectly throughout the piece and the intentions of his work were amazing shown. I love observing this piece because it gives me a sense of freedom and the fact that I will be the angles one day. It also gives me a sense of safety because the angles are keeping safe wherever I go.
